Personality:
Clara is a young woman eager to experience her own adventures. She spent her whole life dreaming of going to all the places she and her mother had talked about before her untimely death. She had to put her plans on hold, though, when a family friend passed on and she became a nanny for their children. Despite her urge to see the world, she doesn't jump into decisions lightly. She thinks things through, like when she asked the Doctor to come back the next day instead of running off with him right away.

Part of this stems from her somewhat skeptical nature, as she’s comfortable openly questioning people’s decisions and ideas. However, she isn't completely inflexible. It can take a moment, but she'll usually accept the more ridiculous things in the universe. Once the Doctor actually showed her he was a time-travelling alien and not some crazy stalker, she adapted quickly. She won't talk to the TARDIS like he does, but she won't question barking aliens or spoonhead robots either. Still, she has a realistic viewpoint that does prevent her from being completely open-minded, such as failing to understand that the TARDIS is alive. She also generally has no time for silly tricks and nonsense, but she often relents in the end and embraces her more dreamy side.

Clara doesn't put her emotions on display for all to see. She covers them up and deflects attention from them with her questioning personality. Trusting people is hard for her, and it takes awhile for her to open up to anyone. She keeps people like the Doctor at a distance to protect herself and make sure she doesn't get pulled into something she can’t handle. She also doesn't want to be seen as weak or afraid and surrounds her fears with a thick shell to keep people out. Despite this, she is a kind and compassionate person, particularly with children. She also values loyalty and keeping her promises. When she does get to know a person, she lets her guard down and will do anything for those she loves, even sacrifice herself to save them.

When in doubt, Clara's first instinct is to make witty remarks. She's never short of a light joke or clever comment about things she finds ridiculous. She also enjoys being playfully flirty, particularly with people that get flustered easily. This quick mind of hers also gives her a keen sense of observation. Sometimes she'll notice things that the Doctor is too distracted to pick up on, such as a factory chimney that doesn't blow smoke. She’s very brave and isn't afraid to go into a dangerous situation if she’s the only one that can get the job done. Clara is used to giving orders due to her job and has been accused of being rather bossy, not that she really minds. She seems to flourish in positions of authority, quickly taking a leadership role without any questions or self-doubt. However, she would prefer not to have too much responsibility, as she turned down a marriage proposal from an emperor because she didn't want to rule a thousand galaxies.

Buried underneath all of that, however, is a vulnerable girl who still misses her mother and fears being lost above all things. She clings to mementos of her mother, though she is slowly letting go of them. She finds the idea of Earth burning up billions of years after she dies sad and the fact that the Doctor doesn't think much of it disturbing. After giving up everything for the Doctor, after letting the time stream rip her apart to save him from the Great Intelligence, breaks down because she doesn't know where she is. She isn't a stoic unfeeling person. Sometimes things become too much and she can’t just force them to the back of her mind. In those moments, all she really needs is a friend who’s got her back and who will help her get back on her feet.
